48 – Maquis, Root and Smartphone Inc

Nov 5, 2020

Once you have played your share of gateway games, what’s the next step? On this episode Steve, Def and Mitch discuss those ‘next step’ games for you and your gaming group – those games that take things up a notch.

But first, Mitch tries his hand at the solo puzzler from Jake Staines, Maquis. Def has also been playing solo – this time it’s the Cole Wehrle-desigend Root. And finally Steve revisited Smarthphone Inc. from Cosmodrome Games, and this time he tries out the 2-3 player board. Find out how it compares in the Sizzling Games segment.

It’s time to announce the next match-up in Round 3 of the Board Game Bracket, but first we need to settle the winner of the Azul vs Quacks of Quedlinburg. Then Mitch and Def get down to tin-tacks as they discuss Gaia Project vs Too Many Bones. To make sure your favourite gets through to the next round, make sure you vote on our socials.

Finally, in Swear An Oath it’s high fives all ’round as Def completed Clinic: Deluxe Edition, Mitch finished Squire For Hire, and Steve played Fort and Trismagistus. So the team swear new oaths (with the help of our Discord members) to play Tekhenu (Def), Robin Hood and the Merry Men (Mitch) and Isle of Cats (Steve).
